‘The Dirtiest Driver on Track!’ Fans Rip Into Verstappen After Risky Moves Against Norris in Mexico GP -“He should go to jail for that”

Max Verstappen faced an unprecedented backlash from fans after his aggressive tactics with Lando Norris at the Mexican GP, resulting in two consecutive 10-second penalties. While the Dutchman has been in fine form despite Red Bull’s recent struggles, his on-track behavior stirred up controversy, as fans took to social media to express frustration—and disbelief.

Verstappen’s clashes with Norris reached a boiling point as he repeatedly forced the McLaren driver off track, prompting race officials to hit him with a total 20-second penalty. The Red Bull driver responded with sarcasm over team radio, remarking, “10?! That’s quite impressive,” as the penalties were announced. Despite his hopes for a strong result, the penalties dashed any chances of a podium finish, marking a rare low in the three-time world champion’s season.

On X (formerly Twitter), fans were vocal about Verstappen’s risky moves, with one user joking that he was just “providing entertainment.” Others were far less forgiving, with comments like, “He should go to jail for that—that’s a murder attempt,” and “The dirtiest driver on track!” adding fuel to the fiery debate. Some fans, even self-professed Verstappen supporters, admitted his actions were hard to defend. “Ngl, even as a Max fan, you can’t condone this—it’s just dangerous now,” one user noted.

Many expressed shock over the penalties, feeling they were deserved given Verstappen’s aggressive approach. A Dutch fan, still supportive of Verstappen, remarked, “I’m Dutch, big Max fan, but yes, this is fair punishment. Two times pushing off in two corners while irritated and yelling over the radio… yes… 10 seconds to cool off.”

With 20 seconds worth of penalties and his Mexican GP performance taking a hit, Verstappen faces a hard reset before the final stretch of the season. While his pursuit of a strong result in Mexico didn’t pan out, fans and critics alike are now watching to see how the champion approaches the remaining races with his typically unrestrained style.
