Max Verstappen pushed through a weekend of setbacks to claim P2 in Mexican Grand Prix Qualifying, a result that seemed far out of reach just hours before. The Dutchman’s Friday was marred by limited track time, leaving Red Bull scrambling to catch up in Saturday’s sessions. Despite a deleted lap and a high-stakes Q3, Verstappen managed to secure a spot on the front row, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown in Sunday’s race.

Reflecting on his challenging weekend, Verstappen admitted, “Yesterday I barely did any laps, so we’re playing catch-up. FP3 wasn’t good either, so I was already under a lot of pressure.” As if things weren’t intense enough, the reigning champion’s first flying lap in Q3 was deleted for exceeding track limits, increasing the pressure to deliver in his final attempt. “My lap time got taken away, so that added more pressure,” Verstappen explained.

The three-time world champion expressed surprise at finding himself on the front row, given Mexico’s notoriously challenging track. “I really didn’t expect the front row. It’s one of the hardest tracks to get right,” Verstappen said.

Starting ahead of title contender Lando Norris, Verstappen will enter Sunday’s race with a surge of confidence despite Red Bull’s struggles. Fans can look forward to a fierce battle between Verstappen and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who took pole, as the Mexican GP promises edge-of-the-seat action from the very start.
