Scout Revives Its Legacy with Bold New Traveler SUV and Terra Truck Concepts—Here’s What to Expect

After a 44-year break, Scout is making a powerful comeback with two rugged, production-ready concept EVs: the Traveler SUV and the Terra truck. Both vehicles are modern tributes to the iconic Scout models produced by International Harvester from 1961 to 1980, reimagined for today’s adventure-hungry EV market.

These Scout EVs are built on an all-new proprietary body-on-frame platform, specifically engineered for serious off-road capability. Both vehicles will boast up to 350 miles of range on battery power alone, with an optional extended-range “Harvester” system that adds a gas-powered generator for up to 500 miles total range. Though specific performance details remain under wraps, Scout hints at jaw-dropping acceleration with nearly 1,000 pound-feet of torque and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds.

Designed for true off-road enthusiasts, these EVs offer remarkable capabilities: up to 35-inch tires, more than a foot of ground clearance, and water-fording capability of nearly three feet. Off-road essentials include a front sway bar disconnect, front and rear mechanical lockers, and a solid rear axle. The Traveler is set to tow over 7,000 pounds, while the Terra can handle more than 10,000 pounds, each with a payload capacity near 2,000 pounds.

Scout’s new models come with cutting-edge charging options. Both EVs use the North American Charging Standard and feature 800-volt architecture, bi-directional charging, and up to 350-kilowatt fast charging capability. The Terra truck offers a 5.5-foot bed, with two 120-volt outlets and a 240-volt outlet for powering up gear on the go. The Traveler, meanwhile, includes a sturdy, integrated spare tire carrier that accommodates a 35-inch full-size spare, while the Terra can hold a 33-inch spare underneath or an in-bed 35-inch carrier.

Inside, Scout draws design inspiration from the classic Scout II, with tactile climate controls under a large central display and an available front bench seat option for the Terra. Mechanical door handles and other retro touches add a nostalgic feel, balancing vintage appeal with modern tech.

Reservations for these highly anticipated EVs are open for just $100. Entry-level prices start in the low $50,000s with incentives, and fully-equipped models are expected to remain below $60,000. Fans will have to be patient, though—production is slated to begin in 2027.

With rugged specs, innovative features, and a timeless design, Scout’s revival promises to bring back the spirit of adventure for a new generation of off-roaders.
