Elon Musk, the strongman of Tesla, is a true believer in unfulfilled promises, and this time he surprised fans of the American electric vehicle brand by making it clear that a low-cost model, known as Model 2, makes no sense at all.
After acknowledging that the Berlin factory could potentially receive the production of the Redwood, and having promised it for the first time in 2020 as a “25 thousand dollar Tesla,” the model that was seen as crucial for further increasing the sales of the American brand now seems to be a thing of the past.
During the third-quarter earnings presentation of Tesla, Elon Musk made it clear that launching an affordable model no longer makes sense when Tesla is planning to launch the autonomous Cybercab with an initial price below $30,000.
“Basically, having a low-cost model at $25,000 doesn’t make sense… it would be foolish,” Musk said when asked about the low-cost model.
This stance aligns with Musk’s predictions that he believes “the future is autonomous driving,” despite the brand continuing to claim that it “aims to make electric vehicles accessible to everyone.”
Remember that Tesla recently unveiled the Cybercab, the robotaxi with which the brand aims to revolutionize autonomous driving, as well as the Robovan, a prototype that anticipates the bus of the future.
