Horse apresenta o motor de maior cilindrada do novo Dacia Bigster

A Horse, the division and engines of the Renault group, announced that the new Dacia Bigster will be equipped with a Hybrid 155 engine, featuring a 1.8-liter gasoline engine designed for the new SUV from the Romanian brand.

In this way, the Bigster is the first model to utilize the new 4-cylinder gasoline engine, developed entirely by Horse, which delivers a power output of 107 hp and is combined with two electric motors (one 50 hp motor and a high-voltage starter/generator), a 1.4 kWh (230V) battery, and an electric automatic transmission. This transmission has four gears for the internal combustion engine and two additional ones for the electric motors. This combined technology is made possible by the absence of a clutch and allows for a total power output of 155 hp, making this hybrid configuration the most powerful in the Bigster range.

The Hybrid 155 power unit complements the Hybrid 140 range available in the new Duster and Jogger. It offers more power (an additional 15 hp), more torque (an additional 20 Nm, for a total of 170 Nm from the combustion engine alone), and greater towing capacity (an additional 250 kg, bringing it to around one ton). Efficiency has also improved, with a 6% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, mainly due to optimized engine management.

By combining regenerative braking with the high energy recovery capacity of the battery and the efficiency of the automatic transmission, this version of the Bigster is capable of remaining in fully electric mode for up to 80% of the time in the city. Additionally, the vehicle always starts in fully electric mode.

“As the first engine produced entirely in our Horse division, this moment is extremely significant for the automotive industry. With our established experience in powertrains, we are helping brands and manufacturers innovate and bring new offerings to market at an unprecedented pace.” said Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain.
