After building a solid reputation in IMSA’s Prototype Challenge series, Alexander Koreiba is shifting his sights toward a new challenge: open-wheel racing. The 26-year-old driver from Branson, Missouri, is set to make his Indy NXT debut with Juncos Hollinger Racing at the Chris Griffis Test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. This marks Koreiba’s first outing in an open-wheel car since testing with Jay Howard Driver Development in USF Pro 2000 at Barber Motorsports Park in 2021.
For Koreiba, the test is more than just a return to open-wheel racing—it’s a step toward his ultimate goal. “The reason I got into racing is because I want to race at the Indianapolis 500 and win it,” Koreiba said. After securing race wins and a runner-up finish in IMSA’s Prototype Challenge in 2022, alongside IndyCar veteran Memo Gidley, Koreiba made his WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut in 2023, continuing to race in the LMP3 class. His success in sports cars has set the foundation for his transition back to open-wheel racing.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to join Juncos Hollinger Racing for the Chris Griffis Test,” Koreiba said. “After the past several seasons in sports cars, returning to an open-wheel car has been a major goal of mine.” He credits Memo Gidley, a former IndyCar podium finisher, as a major influence in his career. “Memo’s experience in IndyCar, from battling through adversity to standing on the podium, has been a huge inspiration to me. His guidance has been instrumental in my return to open-wheel racing.”
With the Indy NXT by Firestone series serving as the top development ladder to IndyCar, Koreiba is using the test as an opportunity to prove himself and secure the necessary funding for a full-season campaign in 2025. “This test is just the beginning,” Koreiba said. “I’m pursuing a full-season campaign in the Indy NXT by Firestone series for 2025.”
Koreiba’s IMSA experience, coupled with his passion for open-wheel racing, positions him as a strong candidate for success in the Indy NXT series. His ambitions are clear: to climb the ranks of open-wheel racing and, ultimately, race in and win the Indianapolis 500.
