Broncos’ $61 Million ‘Game Changer’ Floated as Lions Trade Target

Denver Broncos Safety Justin Simmons Could Be Traded to Detroit Lions in Offseason Overhaul

The Denver Broncos are facing a challenging offseason as they aim to get under the salary cap. Currently sitting $25.7 million over the cap, the Broncos are expected to make some moves to shed salary. One potential trade candidate is veteran safety Justin Simmons, who could bring significant changes to the league.

According to Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report, the Detroit Lions, who came close to reaching the Super Bowl in 2023, could benefit from acquiring a game-changing defender like Simmons. The Broncos, who have struggled to be competitive, could save $14.5 million by moving on from the 30-year-old safety ahead of his walk year.

Simmons, a third-round pick in the 2016 draft, is coming off his second Pro Bowl season. With impressive stats including 70 total tackles, eight pass deflections, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one sack, Simmons has proven his productivity. However, the Broncos’ lack of success is evident, with a 52-79 record during his eight-year tenure and only one winning season.

As the Broncos explore potential trades, they can look to the Philadelphia Eagles’ acquisition of safety Kevin Byard as a reference point. Byard, a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, was traded for safety Terrell Edmunds and picks in the fifth and sixth rounds. The Broncos could expect a similar package for Simmons.

With a cap space of over $61 million, the Lions have the flexibility to accommodate Simmons without needing to sign him to an extension. This hypothetical trade would provide the Broncos with much-needed relief as they continue to reshape their roster. In return, the Lions would add a talented safety to their defense.

As the offseason progresses, it will be interesting to see if the Broncos and Lions can come to an agreement on a trade involving Justin Simmons. Stay tuned for more updates on this potential deal.

Broncos Face Dilemma with Russell Wilson’s Contract

In a shocking turn of events, the Denver Broncos are grappling with a major decision this offseason. The spotlight is on General Manager George Paton as he weighs the fate of star quarterback Russell Wilson. But here’s the catch – if the Broncos decide to part ways with Wilson, they could be hit with a whopping $85 million dead cap penalty. Ouch!

But wait, there might be a glimmer of hope for the Broncos. Rumor has it that they could explore other avenues to cut costs and bid farewell to Wilson next year instead. This would give them some breathing room, as Wilson’s contract enters its second year. The dead cap hit would then decrease to a more manageable $49.6 million. Phew!

It’s a high-stakes game for the Broncos, and the clock is ticking. Will they take the risk and let go of their star quarterback, or will they find a way to make it work? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more updates on this nail-biting saga!
