Carlos Sainz confesses to facing a challenging and time-consuming decision regarding his future in Formula 1

Carlos Sainz is determined to end his Ferrari tenure on a high, aiming to secure another victory in the remaining six races of the 2024 Formula 1 season. After joining the Maranello team in 2021, Sainz is set to leave Ferrari at the end of this season, making way for seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who will join from Mercedes in 2025.

Sainz, who claimed his maiden win with Ferrari at Silverstone in 2022, followed by a triumphant drive in Singapore in 2023, added a third victory at the Australian Grand Prix in 2024 after recovering from surgery. Now, as he prepares to join Williams next season—a team not currently seen as a contender for wins—Sainz is eager to capitalize on his final opportunities with Ferrari.

“Obviously, it’s at the top of my list to try and win at least once again with Ferrari before I leave,” Sainz said. “I always try to win every race that I go to. There’s still one-third of the season left, including three Sprint races, so let’s go race by race.”

Sainz, who recently celebrated his 200th Grand Prix in Singapore, is now gearing up for the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, where he hopes to continue his momentum. He currently sits fifth in the Drivers’ Championship with 190 points, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc, who is third with 245 points. Ferrari, meanwhile, is third in the Constructors’ Championship with 441 points, 34 points behind Red Bull Racing as McLaren leads the standings with 516 points.

While Ferrari’s performance has fluctuated this season, Sainz is confident that the team can still challenge for a strong finish in the Constructors’ standings. When asked about Ferrari’s prospects of maintaining their position, Sainz responded, “We will try. If we show progress at circuits like Austin, Brazil, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, we might have a chance. If not, it means we have more work to do.”

As Sainz prepares for his move to Williams in 2025, where race-winning opportunities are likely to be scarce, the Spaniard is focused on making the most of his final races with Ferrari. With six Grands Prix remaining, he’s determined to leave Ferrari with another victory under his belt.
