Fernando Alonso Defies the Odds as Aston Martin Overcomes ‘Weaknesses’ to Shine in Singapore GP Qualifying

Fernando Alonso, known for his versatility across multiple motorsport disciplines, has made it clear that his top priority remains securing a third Formula 1 World Championship, despite his career nearing its twilight years. The 43-year-old Spaniard, who recently signed a contract extension with Aston Martin, has reaffirmed his commitment to Formula 1, signaling that his focus is firmly on achieving another title before he considers other racing ambitions.

Alonso, who has already tasted victory in the iconic Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, had previously targeted the prestigious Triple Crown of Motorsport—winning the Monaco GP, Le Mans, and the Indianapolis 500. While he has come close to completing the feat, with multiple attempts at the Indy 500, the veteran driver has admitted that the Brickyard victory may be out of reach for now:

“The Triple Crown is very attractive to me, that is, winning Monaco F1, Le Mans, and the Indy 500. But with the Indy 500, I tried three times and I couldn’t. Trying again is not in my plans at the moment.”

Having shifted his focus back to Formula 1, Alonso has made it clear that winning a third F1 World Championship is his main goal. With the recent resurgence of Aston Martin and the arrival of renowned aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey in 2025, Alonso believes that his chances of reaching the pinnacle of F1 once again are within sight:

“I’m very, very focused on F1: in the next two or three years I want to win the third world title. It is currently my first and only priority.”

Although Alonso’s immediate focus is on F1, he hasn’t completely ruled out other challenges. The 43-year-old has expressed his interest in tackling the Dakar Rally, a grueling off-road endurance race that few Formula 1 drivers have conquered. Winning the Dakar would cement Alonso’s legacy as one of the most versatile drivers in motorsport history:

“I have other goals, my next challenge will be the Dakar Rally. If I could win it, I would be enormously gratified. As a driver, being able to win in Endurance at Le Mans and Daytona, in F1, and then also in Rally would mean a lot.”

Alonso continues to perform at a high level in Formula 1, consistently delivering top-10 finishes despite Aston Martin’s challenges this season. With the arrival of Newey, Alonso is optimistic about the team’s future trajectory, hoping that the combination of talent and expertise will push them into championship contention. For now, however, all roads for Alonso lead to one goal: a third F1 world title.
