“Electric vehicle market accelerates in September.”

The Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) revealed that in September, 8,989 new electric, plug-in, and hybrid light passenger vehicles were registered, which is an increase of 25.4% compared to the same month last year.

Overall, in the first three quarters of 2024, registrations of this type of light passenger vehicles totaled 75,717 units, representing a positive variation of 11.4% compared to the same period in 2023.

ACAP also reported that for 100% electric light passenger vehicles, in the ninth month of 2024, there was an increase of 43.9% compared to the same month in 2023, with 4,053 new light passenger vehicles registered.

From January to September, there was a 13.3% increase in new electric light passenger vehicles compared to the same period last year, with a total of 29,068 units registered.

On the other hand, the market for electric, plug-in, and hybrid electric light commercial vehicles recorded a negative evolution of 31.8% in September compared to the same month in 2023, with 174 units registered.

Accumulatively, this market reached 1,718 units in the ninth month of the year, representing a decrease of 3.6% compared to last year.

Note also the market for 100% electric light commercial vehicles, which saw a decline of 32.5% in registrations in September compared to the same period last year. From January to September 2024, ACAP data shows a growth of 3.9% compared to the same period last year.

As for the heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger and commercial types, 19 new electrified heavy vehicles were registered in September, representing a decrease of 73.2%.

In cumulative terms, in the first three quarters of 2024, there was a negative change of 58.9% compared to the same period last year, with 97 vehicles registered.

In September 2024, 19 new electric heavy vehicles were registered, marking a decline of 73.2% compared to the same month last year.

From January to September, there was also a decrease of 58.9% compared to the same period in 2023, with 97 vehicles of this type registered.
