Volvo has announced the inauguration of the new Software Center in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of the company’s journey towards a new generation of cars that will be fully electric, conceived by hardware but increasingly defined by software.
The Swedish brand emphasizes that the future Volvo is fully electric, increasingly sold online, powered by state-of-the-art central computers that run internally developed software and capable of constantly improving over time thanks to regular software updates performed remotely.
In this way, the new Volvo Software Center will expand the company’s software testing capacity in order to contribute to achieving the brand’s strategic ambitions, which include being a reference in the industry for new technologies and a fully electric car company by 2030.
“These facilities will be the center of our global software testing and validation activities. Programmers from all of our engineering facilities and global technology centers will be able to remotely conduct their software tests here, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I firmly believe that with this new testing center, we are setting a new benchmark for the automotive industry,” emphasized Anders Bell, Global Head of R&D at Volvo Cars.
It should be noted that Volvo’s strategy is to be 100% electric by 2030, and the brand expects that starting in 2025, half of global sales will be electric vehicles. In addition, all electric vehicles will be exclusively sold online, representing a shift in the sales strategy as well.
