Mick Schumacher took his first steps in the Alpine A424 LMDh this week – the model with which the team will compete in the top class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) from next year. The first test took place in Jerez.

According to the website sportscar365.com, the German – who was left without a spot in Formula 1 after Haas’ departure at the end of 2022 – had an experience that essentially served as a first contact. For now, there are no more planned sessions.

Philippe Sinault, team manager of Signatech Alpine, spoke about Schumacher’s work program: ‘Mick has some interest in endurance racing and we had the opportunity to offer him a first experience in endurance. It was his first time in the car and his first time in a prototype. It’s not a question of whether he is capable of driving a prototype. It is certain in terms of skill level, but also in terms of mindset, approach, and spirit’.

The manager did not reveal how many laps Schumacher completed, only clarifying that it was not many kilometers: ‘The precise number of laps, I’m not sure, but we had a short program for his first endurance experience. But even so, it was enough for him to have a good perspective of what an endurance program could be like and also for us to have a first contact. But we don’t know what the future holds for him and for us with him, but it was a first contact’.
