Ricciardo Uncertain if Other Racing Series Can Fill F1 Void After Red Bull Exit: ‘IndyCar still scares me!’

Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 future has been officially cut short, as Red Bull announced that Liam Lawson will replace him for the remainder of the 2024 season, leaving the Australian driver without a confirmed seat for 2025. Speaking candidly before the decision was finalized, Ricciardo opened up about the uncertainty of finding the fulfillment he seeks outside the F1 grid.

Having considered other racing categories in the past, Ricciardo acknowledged that exploring new avenues could be on the table, though he remains hesitant. “IndyCar still scares me!” Ricciardo admitted. “I’ve thought about it, especially when I knew I wasn’t going to be starting the 2023 season. I don’t know if it’s the right move. I know I’m still a competitor with a lot of fire left, but whether that itch gets scratched doing something else, I’m not sure.”

Despite his passion for motorsport, Ricciardo questioned whether racing in another series could match the thrill of Formula 1. “Even fighting for a tenth place in F1 felt different. That’s the pinnacle, and even though I love NASCAR and other motorsports, they don’t quite measure up to the highs I’ve felt in F1,” he said. “There’s no guarantee I’d be great in another series, and I don’t know if that would truly fulfill me.”

Reflecting on his brief time away from F1 after parting ways with McLaren, Ricciardo revealed that stepping away from the sport no longer daunts him. “I’ve already had a taste of life outside the paddock, and honestly, I’m not afraid of it,” he explained. “I’ve seen other athletes go through similar transitions, and there’s a lot to explore. I’ve enjoyed my time in racing, but I’m not scared of what comes next.”

As Ricciardo faces the reality of his uncertain racing future, he remains open to exploring new opportunities but is wary of finding the same level of satisfaction outside the world of Formula 1. The question remains: can any other racing challenge truly match the thrill of competing at the top of the motorsport world for the Honey Badger?
