Joey Logano Refuses Full Responsibility for Wild Lap 83 Crash Involving Keselowski and Byron at Watkins Glen

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs Round of 16 has lived up to its chaotic expectations, with this Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen delivering dramatic wrecks and high stakes. However, one of the most intense incidents of the day occurred on Lap 83, involving Team Penske’s Joey Logano, RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski, and Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron. The crash left both Keselowski’s and Byron’s races in ruins, sparking heated reactions across the NASCAR world.

Logano found himself at the center of controversy after forcing a risky three-wide situation that resulted in a collision. The crash saw Byron’s No. 24 Chevy’s front tire lodged into Keselowski’s No. 6 Ford. The Penske driver admitted partial fault for the wreck but also directed criticism toward the state of the track at the time.

In an interview following the race, Logano explained, “Yeah, it was my fault, but the track was filthy. I’ve been asking them to clean the marbles off the surface before restarts, and nothing got done.” He expressed frustration that the track’s condition had a significant role in the accident, refusing to take sole responsibility for the chaos that unfolded.

Despite Logano’s acknowledgment of his part in the wreck, he continued to emphasize that NASCAR’s failure to clean the marbles off the track played a critical role in the incident, leading to the wreck that derailed both Keselowski’s and Byron’s playoff hopes for the day.

William Byron, who entered the race weekend with high hopes of securing a win, saw those hopes dashed after the late crash. Finishing a disappointing P34, Byron admitted uncertainty about what exactly triggered the incident but was relieved to have salvaged some stage points earlier in the race. “Without those points, it could’ve been a lot worse,” Byron stated, clearly frustrated but still in contention as the playoffs progress.

As the drivers head into the final race of the Round of 16, Byron remains in a decent position despite the wreck, while Logano’s comments about the track conditions may spark further debate within the NASCAR community. With tensions running high and every point crucial, the upcoming races will undoubtedly continue to provide high drama for fans and teams alike.
