Despite the drop in raw material prices in international markets, the price of 95 octane gasoline will rise again next week.
According to calculations from “ECO”, 95 octane gasoline will see an increase of 0.5 cents per liter, pricing at €1.647, while diesel, the most commonly used fuel in Portugal, is not expected to change, remaining at €1.526 per liter.
A new increase in the Carbon Tax, which for the second consecutive week negates a likely drop in fuel prices, is preventing a predicted decrease in fuel costs next week.
The carbon tax will be raised again on Saturday, September 14, to €81 per ton, which translates to an increase of 1.5 cents per liter for gasoline and 1.6 cents per liter for diesel.
In a decree published this Friday in Diário da República, the Government justifies the decision to raise the carbon tax again with the “trend of decreasing fuel prices” alongside the “increasing” trajectory in the price of carbon emissions.
