The Chinese automotive group Geely intends to establish a production unit in Europe and has already begun negotiations for this purpose.
Geely, which is the second largest car manufacturer in China by sales, is part of the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which also includes brands like Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, in addition to a joint venture with Renault and stakes in Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz.
According to “Automotive News Europe”, the vice president of Geely Auto Group, Li Chuanhai, has already acknowledged that the decision to establish a production unit in Europe “is not yet 100% decided”, but that “there are many possibilities”.
Currently, the Chinese company is in talks with the Polish government for a joint factory for electric vehicles in that country, but Polish authorities have already indicated to “Reuters” that they do not see Geely as an ideal partner.
It is worth noting that Geely is yet another Chinese company looking to set up production units in Europe, at a time when the European Commission is set to reassess tariffs imposed on certain manufacturers for the import of electric vehicles produced in China.
