Campanha “Cinto-me vivo” regista mais de 11 mil infrações numa semana

The GNR, PSP, and the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) launched the campaign “Buckle Up, Stay Alive” on Tuesday, September 10, as part of the National Inspection Plan for 2024. The aim is to raise awareness among drivers and all vehicle occupants about the importance of always using safety devices.

This initiative, which runs until September 16, will include awareness-raising activities and enforcement operations, with a particular focus on compliance with road code rules and complementary legislation regarding the use of safety devices.

The awareness-raising actions will take place simultaneously with enforcement operations in the following locations:

On September 10, at 10:00 AM: EN-114 Km 181, Évora.

On September 11, at 8:00 AM: Rua Tenente Sanches Miranda, No. 68, next to the Kindergarten of the Social and Parochial Center of Salvador, Beja.

On September 12, at 8:00 AM: EN 101, Vila Verde, Braga.

On September 13, at 10:00 AM: Rua Cidade D’Agen, next to the EB 2/3 D. João II School, Santarém.

On September 16, at 7:30 AM: EN 10, Km 25.8, Azeitão.

The ANSR, PSP, and GNR emphasize “the importance of safety devices,” reminding everyone that their use is essential and urging all to use them correctly.

In a statement, the three entities emphasize that in a frontal collision at 50 km/h, a driver weighing 70kg, without a seatbelt, experiences an impact equivalent to a free fall from a third floor. Furthermore, the use of an approved helmet, properly tightened and adjusted, reduces the risk of death in the event of an accident by 40%.

It is also proven that the correct use of a certified child seat, adapted to the child’s size and weight, reduces the risk of death by 50%. For children up to 18kg, using a rear-facing car seat, combined with the use of a seatbelt, reduces the risk of serious injury or death by up to 90%.
