Volvo reforça parceria com a NVIDIA

Volvo has just announced that it has strengthened its partnership with NVIDIA in order to maximize the full potential of software-defined vehicles with a central computing architecture.

Still this decade, the Swedish company aims to introduce new models based on the NVIDIA DRIVE Thor, which is capable of up to 1 quintillion operations per second. This is four times more operations per second than a DRIVE Orin SoC, while simultaneously offering seven times more energy efficiency.

In this way, Volvo intends to develop human-centered technology that can create value and make vehicles safer and life better, without compromising safety.

It is worth noting that the new Volvo EX90 is the brand’s first vehicle to be truly software-defined – it is built on a central computing architecture made possible by the long-standing partnership with NVIDIA.

The vehicle’s main computing system is powered by an NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system on chip (SoC) that processes more than 250 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This system is capable of commanding all functions in the vehicle, powering the learning resources that support active safety systems and AI-based driver assistance, and helping to introduce the autonomous driving of the future, providing the best customer experience.

“With NVIDIA DRIVE Thor in our future vehicles, our internal software will be able to transform our product range into increasingly better economies of scale, which will help us continue to improve the safety of our models, provide the best experiences for customers, reduce our costs, and increase our margins.”, said Jim Rowan, CEO, Volvo Cars.
