EMBIID’S MVP SEASON THREATENED BY KNEE INJURY
In a shocking turn of events, Joel Embiid’s bid for another MVP season has been put on hold due to a knee injury. The Philadelphia 76ers star suffered a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee, forcing him to take a break from the game while the team evaluates the severity of the injury.
This setback raises serious concerns about Embiid’s chances of claiming any individual awards this season. However, Kendrick Perkins, former NBA center and current ESPN personality, has advised Embiid to prioritize his health and longevity above all else. “Sometimes it’s ok to be selfish and take care of you,” Perkins stated in a recent interview with NBA on ESPN.
Throughout the season, Embiid has already missed 13 games, and with the new NBA rule requiring players to participate in a minimum of 65 games to be eligible for individual honors, his chances of winning another MVP are in jeopardy. Last season, Embiid secured the coveted MVP title with impressive averages of 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. This year, he has managed to raise the bar even higher, currently averaging 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.
The absence of Embiid has taken a toll on the Sixers, as they have slipped from third place to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. However, the true measure of Embiid’s success will be determined in the postseason. Unfortunately, his postseason scoring numbers have historically fallen short of his regular-season performance.
Furthermore, Embiid has yet to lead the Philadelphia team to the Eastern Conference Finals. In the previous playoffs, the Sixers squandered a 3-2 series lead against the Boston Celtics in the second round. If the Sixers aim to secure their first NBA championship since 1983, it is imperative that Embiid makes a full recovery before the playoffs commence.
