Mazda Iconic SP: um protótipo que antecipa um futuro desportivo

Mazda has just unveiled the Iconic SP, a concept that combines a dual-rotor propulsion system with an EV platform, a newly introduced approach in the brand-new Mazda MX-30 R-EV.

This prototype revealed at the opening of the Tokyo Motor Show (Japan Mobility Show) is exclusively powered by a battery electric motor, but it also includes a rotary propeller and two rotors as an electricity generator. Therefore, it not only relies on being electrically powered but can also use gasoline.

Mazda announced that the Iconic SP delivers 370 hp and that the idea of a two-rotor rotary EV system would provide a highly scalable engine with a flexible layout, capable of burning a variety of fuels, including hydrogen, making it a Mazda-exclusive technology ideal for different sports car concepts. And if the battery is charged with electricity derived from renewable energy, it will be possible to drive in an almost carbon-neutral environment.

With a length of 4.18 meters and a height of 1.15 meters, the Iconic SP has the proportions of a small sports car and weighs 1,450 kilograms, allowing for a power-to-weight ratio of 3.9 kg/hp, indicating high performance.

Although it is a study of a compact sports car designed to adapt to a new era, this Iconic SP features a very low hood, resulting from the central mounting of the lightweight and compact rotary engine, doors and windows reminiscent of the RX-7, as well as a grille and headlights with a modern design.

The interior features a minimalist design highlighted by an original gear selector placed on the center console, as well as a digital instrument panel and a small-sized infotainment system screen.

According to Mazda, the Iconic SP is the ultimate expression of a vehicle that aims to emphasize the Japanese brand’s focus on driving pleasure above all other qualities.
