Ford Issues Recall for Multiple Models Over Potential Fuel Injector Issue

Leaking Fuel Injectors Could Increase Risk of Engine Fire; 24 Vehicles Affected Across Four Models

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall affecting 24 vehicles across four of its models due to a potential fuel injector issue that could increase the risk of engine fires. The recall addresses concerns over missing O-ring support discs in the fuel injectors, which can lead to fuel leakage near hot surfaces within the engine compartment.

Affected Models:

  • 2024 Ford Mustang
    • Production Dates: July 31, 2023, to March 19, 2024
    • Number of Vehicles Affected: 5 units
  • 2024 Ford Explorer
    • Production Dates: Specific dates not provided
    • Number of Vehicles Affected: 2 units
  • 2024 Ford Escape
    • Production Dates: Specific dates not provided
    • Number of Vehicles Affected: 14 units
  • 2024 Lincoln Corsair
    • Production Dates: Specific dates not provided
    • Number of Vehicles Affected: 3 units

Issue Details: All affected vehicles are equipped with the same direct fuel injector model, bearing the part number P2GE-9F593-AA, supplied by Bosch Charleston. The missing O-ring support discs in these injectors can cause fuel to leak and accumulate near hot surfaces, posing a potential fire hazard.

Discovery and Investigation: Ford initiated an investigation into the issue on July 16, 2024, following a warranty report concerning a direct fuel injector missing an O-ring support disc. The investigation uncovered 10 additional reports potentially related to this problem. To date, there have been no reports of engine fires, accidents, or injuries associated with this defect.

Remedial Action: Ford dealerships have been informed of the issue and will perform the following corrective actions free of charge:

  • Inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel injector O-rings and install the missing O-ring support discs.
  • The replacement parts are identified by part numbers PG2E-9F596-AA (O-ring) and PG2E-9F596-BA (O-ring support disc).

Owner Notification:

  • Ford will notify affected vehicle owners via first-class mail between September 30 and October 4, 2024.
  • Owners are advised to contact Ford Customer Service for more information or to schedule a service appointment.
  • To verify if a specific vehicle is included in this recall, owners can:
    • Use the VIN lookup tool on Ford’s official website.
    • Check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website using their vehicle’s 17-character VIN.

Vehicle Pricing (for reference):

  • 2024 Ford Mustang: Starting at $31,920
  • 2024 Ford Explorer: Starting at $39,755
  • 2024 Ford Escape: Starting at $29,495
  • 2024 Lincoln Corsair: Starting at $39,385

Conclusion: Ford is proactively addressing this issue to ensure the safety and reliability of its vehicles. Owners of the affected models are encouraged to respond promptly to recall notices and have their vehicles inspected and repaired as recommended.
