Kevin Magnussen suffered a significant accident during the Mexico City Grand Prix. Here are the details of the incident:
On lap 32 of the race, Kevin Magnussen, who was in 16th position, experienced a rear right suspension failure at turn 8. This caused him to lose control of his Haas car, resulting in a heavy collision with the tire barrier. The impact occurred on the second leg of the high-speed “S” curve.
After the collision, Magnussen exited the car visibly dazed, and his Haas #20 began to catch fire. The officials at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez took a few minutes to reach the accident site and extinguish the flames.
This accident marked Magnussen’s fourth retirement in the 2023 Formula 1 season. His other retirements occurred at the Australian, Monaco, and British Grands Prix.
At the time of the interruption caused by the accident, Max Verstappen was leading the race.
