The Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1 quickly turned into a nightmare for the home man, Sergio Pérez. After a strong start, he arrived at turn one trying to dispute the lead, but there was an incident with Red Bull colleague Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) from which he suffered the worst consequences – abandonment at the scene with damage.

A disappointing ending for the Mexican, after starting well meters before, as he stated: ‘I had a tremendous start, probably my best of the year, the space was there and if you don’t go there, what’s the point of being here? I went and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting Charles to brake as late as he did and there simply wasn’t room for three cars’.

Although the risk was not rewarded, Pérez defended his approach: ‘I really wanted this victory and I knew it was risky, but if it had worked, I would have ended up in the lead. In your home GP, after being on the podium twice, you want to give it your all and I fought hard, I really wanted the win and I worked hard for it’.

After this premature abandonment, #11 did not hide all the sadness he feels: ‘I’m going home very sad because of the result, but proud of myself and the team that did everything here, this is simply racing, and that’s how sports happen sometimes’.
