End of the line for Jack Doohan in Formula 2. After two complete seasons, currently fighting for a top five finish in the championship, the driver from Invicta Virtuosi rejects a third season on the threshold of Formula 1 – focusing instead on the role of test and reserve driver for Alpine in Formula 1.

To Motorsport.com, the 20-year-old Australian made it clear that F2 is completely out of the equation for 2024: ‘I am currently not going to compete in F2 next year. It doesn’t seem realistic, with the situation and everything that has happened. I made the most of it, I think I did a great job with what was under my control. So, doing a third year wouldn’t bring many gains. My two years in F2 didn’t necessarily go as planned. […]. But between that, and between the bad moments, the highlights, with what was under my control, I believe I did well and was able to show my abilities. Doing another year in F2, if you win, is expected, if not, you can… there’s not much to gain. So, there’s everything to lose and nothing to gain’.

Being linked to Alpine, one of the competition doors that could open for Doohan is the LMDh project in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). However, the driver still points in the direction of F1: ‘I currently have no direction on WEC, nothing confirmed. So, I am still in line with F1, the team is working towards it and I stay within the team, and I still strive for a place in F1. This is my path. And I am sure I will get there’.
