VIDEO – The Grand Tour’s Final Lap: A Bittersweet Goodbye to Clarkson, Hammond, and May

It’s time to face the reality that’s been on the horizon for a while: the final curtain is closing on The Grand Tour and, with it, the end of an era for the legendary trio that made us all fall in love with car chaos. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May have been the beating heart of automotive entertainment for over two decades, first on Top Gear and then on The Grand Tour. Now, as the final special approaches, the emotions are running high.

We knew this day was coming ever since Clarkson, Hammond, and May announced that their adventure was nearing its end. But knowing doesn’t make the final trailer any less gut-wrenching. The new special, aptly titled One for the Road, looks like classic Grand Tour fare—an old-school adventure that feels familiar in all the right ways.

Let’s be honest—The Grand Tour has had its ups and downs. The magic that defined the trio’s Top Gear days has been elusive, sometimes lost amid the formulaic gags and over-the-top stunts. It’s hard not to feel a little skeptical about whether this final special will recapture the spark of their golden years. But here’s the thing: even if it doesn’t, that’s okay. These three have given us more laughs, thrills, and absurd moments than we could have ever asked for, and that legacy will endure long after the credits roll for the last time.

One for the Road sticks to the tried-and-true formula—three impractical old cars, some ludicrous modifications, and plenty of banter as they tackle another impossible journey. Clarkson’s in a Lancia Scorpion, because of course he’s picked something Italian and unreliable. Hammond’s in a Ford Capri, staying true to his love for working-class heroes. And May, in typical fashion, is driving what appears to be a Triumph Stag Mk2—a choice that’s bound to go wrong, as it always does.

This is the final chapter of a story that’s spanned generations, and while the antics might be familiar, that’s exactly what makes it feel right. There’s no need for reinvention—just one last ride with the guys who’ve been with us through it all. As we prepare to watch One for the Road on September 13th, there’s a sense of closure mixed with sadness. We know it’s time for Clarkson, Hammond, and May to hang up their helmets, but saying goodbye isn’t going to be easy.

So here we are, ready for one last adventure. It might not be perfect, but it’s the end of an era, and for that, it’s bound to be unforgettable.
