Lando Norris has been a shining star for McLaren throughout the 2024 Formula 1 season, and his commanding victory at the Dutch Grand Prix has only solidified his status as a genuine title contender. With a 22-second lead over Max Verstappen, Norris secured the second win of his career, sending shockwaves through the paddock and signaling that McLaren is no longer content with playing second fiddle.

Red Bull’s Technical Advisor, Helmut Marko, couldn’t help but take notice of Norris’s blistering pace. While Verstappen still holds a 70-point lead in the drivers’ standings, Marko acknowledged that Norris has emerged as a serious threat. The 24-year-old Brit has been a consistent frontrunner this season, even if he’s had his share of ups and downs compared to the reigning champion. Marko now sees Norris as a driver who can match Verstappen’s speed and challenge Red Bull’s dominance.

Red Bull had anticipated a tough weekend at Zandvoort, knowing the RB20 would struggle against McLaren’s upgraded MCL38. The loss has prompted the team to scrutinize their performance and make necessary improvements ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. With McLaren closing the gap in the constructors’ championship to just 30 points, the pressure is mounting for Red Bull to respond.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella was elated with the performance of the MCL38, which featured significant upgrades that paid off handsomely in Zandvoort. Stella praised the entire McLaren team for their relentless effort in developing the car, highlighting how their hard work has put the team in a position to challenge for both titles.

“I want to thank all the men and women at McLaren for delivering the upgrades that have worked so well and put us in an exciting position for the future,” Stella said, reflecting on the progress made.

Looking ahead to Monza, McLaren knows that maintaining their momentum will require continued excellence in both strategy and car development. The Italian GP will be a critical test for the team as they aim to further close the gap to Red Bull and solidify their place as a top contender in the 2024 season. With the championship race heating up, all eyes will be on Norris and McLaren to see if they can sustain their newfound dominance.
