TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR CARLOS SAINZ: WHERE SHOULD HE GO FOR 2025?

In a dramatic shake-up of the Formula 1 grid, Carlos Sainz is set to leave Ferrari, paving the way for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to don the iconic red suit. Sainz’s switch to Williams, announced just before the August break, has sent shockwaves through the paddock, marking a significant shift in the sport’s landscape.

As the second half of the season kicked off at the Dutch Grand Prix, Williams driver Alex Albon welcomed the challenge of having Sainz as his new teammate. “It will be a challenge, of course. Carlos is very highly regarded, and I welcome it,” Albon stated. “It’s great to have that competition, and I enjoy that… we’ll be able to learn from each other.”

For Sainz, Williams presents a stark contrast to the grandeur of Ferrari. Currently languishing in ninth place out of ten teams, with only four points scored—all by Albon—Williams faces an uphill battle to return to its former glory. Albon, who joined Williams in 2022 after a tough stint alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull, is eager to see what insights Sainz can bring from his time at top teams like Ferrari and McLaren.

“We’ll push each other hard,” Albon said. “I’m especially interested to see what his feedback is. He’ll bring new perspectives from Ferrari, especially with the new generation of cars. Having someone with that experience can only help us improve.”

Sainz’s move to Williams comes as the team prepares for a major overhaul. His arrival will coincide with the departure of Logan Sargeant, leaving Albon and Sainz as the duo tasked with elevating Williams from the back of the grid. Albon, who has now spent three years at Williams, sees this as an opportunity for the team to benefit from Sainz’s fresh perspective and experience.

Sainz, who has raced alongside the likes of Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, Lando Norris at McLaren, and even Max Verstappen at Toro Rosso, brings a wealth of experience to Williams. His journey from Red Bull’s junior team to Ferrari has seen him become one of the most respected drivers on the grid, known for his consistency and racecraft.

As the 2024 season progresses, all eyes will be on how Sainz adapts to his new surroundings at Williams and whether he can help the team claw its way back to competitiveness. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s move to Ferrari adds another layer of intrigue, setting the stage for one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory.
