Xiaomi continues to accelerate its offensive in the automotive sector and has once again made its mark at the Beijing Auto Show. The brand confirmed that the new YU7 GT will be officially presented at the end of May — and all indications suggest that it will not just be another version of its SUV, but rather a model designed to elevate the brand’s positioning.

After a surprising start in the Chinese market, Xiaomi now shows that it does not intend to remain confined to the mainstream segment. The YU7 GT is the next step: more powerful, more technological, and clearly aimed at an audience seeking performance without sacrificing autonomy.

A more aggressive design to stand out

At first glance, the YU7 GT maintains the aesthetic base of the already known model, but it quickly becomes clear that we are facing something different. The front end is more expressive, with sharper lines and an aerodynamic set that reinforces its sporty vocation.

The debut of the Cherry Red color, exclusive to this version, contributes to accentuating that identity, while elements such as the front splitter, the redesigned rear diffuser, and the 21-inch wheels help consolidate a more performance-oriented image. The large brake calipers are not just an aesthetic detail — they are also a clear indicator of the model’s ambitions.

More than 1,000 horsepower in an electric SUV

If the design suggests performance, the numbers confirm it unequivocally. The YU7 GT uses a configuration of two electric motors that, together, deliver 1,003 horsepower.

This figure places it in a territory that, until recently, was reserved for supercars. The announced top speed of 300 km/h reinforces this idea, positioning the model among the most extreme SUVs on the market.

Still, Xiaomi’s focus does not seem to be solely on pure acceleration. The approach is more comprehensive, seeking to balance performance with real-world usability.

Range beyond performance

In a model of this nature, it would be easy to sacrifice range in the name of power. However, Xiaomi opted for a more balanced compromise.

The 101.7 kWh battery, supplied by CATL, allows for a range of up to 705 km according to the CLTC cycle. Although this figure is naturally more optimistic than the European WLTP standard, it still indicates that the YU7 GT is not just a fast SUV — it is also a model designed for long journeys.

This combination of power and range brings it closer to the classic Gran Turismo concept, now reinterpreted for the electric era.

Technology as a Differentiating Element

The presence of a LiDAR sensor on the roof is one of the clearest signs of the brand’s strategy. Xiaomi does not want to compete solely on performance but also on technological integration.

Advanced driver assistance systems are part of the model’s DNA, reflecting the brand’s origins in the technology sector. More than just a car, the YU7 GT emerges as a smart mobility platform.

An Ambitious Positioning

During the presentation, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, defined the model as a high-performance proposal capable of long-distance travel. A simple definition, but one that reveals ambition.

Xiaomi wants to position itself in a segment dominated by established brands, offering an alternative that combines impressive numbers with a competitive technological package.

A Success that Sustains Confidence

The strategy does not arise in a vacuum. The original YU7 has already demonstrated the brand’s ability to compete in the Chinese market, surpassing 230,000 units delivered in just 10 months.

This performance gives Xiaomi the confidence needed to move forward with more ambitious versions like the YU7 GT, consolidating its presence in an increasingly competitive segment.

Europe on the Horizon

Although the immediate focus remains on China, Xiaomi has already confirmed its entry into the European market in 2027. When that happens, models like the YU7 GT could play a central role in how the brand positions itself outside its domestic market.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi YU7 GT is not just another powerful electric SUV. It is a clear signal that tech brands are rapidly ascending the value chain of the automotive industry.

By combining extreme performance, relevant range, and a strong technological component, Xiaomi presents a proposition that directly challenges traditional manufacturers.

In a rapidly transforming market, this type of approach may cease to be an exception — and become the norm.
