In light of this, NFL analyst and die-hard Cowboys fan Skip Bayless has voiced his support for Trevon Diggs’ endorsement of Al Harris as a potential replacement. Bayless, speaking on Undisputed, confidently stated that he believes Harris, a 14-year veteran, has what it takes to succeed in this role.
Harris, a former Pro Bowler with the Green Bay Packers, has been involved in coaching since 2012, following his retirement from playing. He began his coaching career as an intern for the Miami Dolphins and later joined the Kansas City Chiefs as their secondary coach. After a brief stint at FAU, Harris returned to the NFL in 2020 with the Cowboys. His impact on the team has been remarkable, with Trevon Diggs attributing his success to Harris’ guidance. Under Harris’ tutelage, Diggs earned an All-Pro selection and led the league in interceptions in 2021. In fact, DaRon Bland has also thrived under Harris’ coaching, setting a record with five pick-sixes this season.
Given his impressive track record, it is clear that Al Harris should be considered as a strong candidate for the defensive coordinator position. However, it is worth noting that coach McCarthy may feel the pressure to make a more experienced hire, as his own job security could be on the line from the moment he steps onto the field for OTAs.
