Skoda Unveils Eco-Friendly Interior Details for Upcoming Elroq EV Crossover

Skoda is teasing the world with more details about its upcoming Elroq crossover, focusing this time on the vehicle’s eco-conscious interior, which is crafted using innovative recycled materials. This move not only highlights Skoda’s commitment to sustainability but also positions the Elroq as a standout in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle (EV) market.

The Czech automaker has revealed that the Elroq will offer four distinct ‘Design Selections’ for its interior: Studio, Loft, Lodge, and Suite. Each of these options incorporates a variety of sustainable materials, showcasing Skoda’s dedication to environmental responsibility. For example, the Loft Design Selection features upholstery made from 78% recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles and, in a first for the automotive industry, recycled clothing. This dark faux leather upholstery, accented with yellow reflective stitching, is paired with a dark gray-blue fabric, creating a modern and eco-friendly aesthetic.

Another innovation is the use of Technofil, a material made with ECONYL yarns derived from regenerated nylon, including discarded fishing nets and fabric scraps. This is prominently featured in the Lodge Design Selection, where 75% of the fibers are recycled ECONYL and 25% are polyester. No matter which interior design you choose, you can proudly tell your friends that your new Skoda Elroq is an embodiment of eco-friendly engineering.

So, what exactly is the Skoda Elroq? Positioned below the Enyaq in Skoda’s lineup, the Elroq is a new crossover based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which also underpins models like the VW ID.3, ID.4, Cupra Tavascan, and Ford Explorer EV. Skoda plans to offer the Elroq in several configurations: 50, 60, 85, and 85x. The base model comes with a 52 kWh battery, while the mid-range version features a 59 kWh unit. The 85 and 85x models are equipped with a 77 kWh battery pack.

Performance-wise, the Elroq 85x will be the most powerful, boasting a dual-motor setup that delivers 296 hp. The Elroq 85, a rear-wheel-drive variant, offers 281 hp. The mid-tier Elroq 60 has 201 hp, and the entry-level version produces 168 hp. The top two models promise a range of over 348 miles on a single charge and support fast charging at up to 175 kW.

Skoda is expected to officially unveil the Elroq either in late 2024 or early 2025, with orders likely opening soon after in Europe. While the company has not yet announced plans to bring the Elroq to the United States, the question remains: Should Skoda consider launching this affordable and compact EV in the U.S. as a competitor to the VW ID.4? Time will tell if the Elroq will cross the Atlantic, but its blend of sustainability and performance could make it an appealing option in any market.
