WEC and FIA aim for a simpler BoP system next season.

With different cars at different performance levels, the World Endurance Championship (WEC) has implemented a Balance of Performance (BoP) system in the top-class Hypercar. However, it is not always easy to understand, and the governing bodies – FIA and Automobile Club de l’Ouest – agree on the need to simplify it.

Quoted by Motorsport.com, ACO President Pierre Fillon stated: ‘We want to change it to improve it and make it simpler’.

Although they emphasize that BoP is not the “cure-all” for all car problems, the FIA and WEC are committed to creating conditions of competitive parity for everyone, without compromising merit and financial sustainability – Richard Mille, president of the FIA endurance commission, highlighted that BoP also aims to prevent an escalation of costs.

According to the aforementioned organization, the idea should be to reduce the scope of BoP, for example, by mitigating the benefits of the hybrid LMH cars’ all-wheel drive at the front axle. On the other hand, mechanisms to achieve an enhanced balance of all cars should be eliminated.

Although the specific details of the future BoP are not known, it is believed that Ferrari and Toyota are in favor of it. The system introduced this year is based on evaluating each car’s potential in a simulator and analyzing the data collected on the track.
