GM Recalls Buick Envision Over Floor Liner Issue That Could Cause Accelerator Pedal to Get Stuck

General Motors has issued a recall for 2,450 Buick Envision vehicles from the 2024 model year due to a potentially dangerous issue where the driver-side floor liner could interfere with the throttle pedal, causing it to become stuck in a depressed position. This recall echoes a similar problem Toyota faced between 2007 and 2011, where floor mats caused unintended acceleration in millions of vehicles.

The issue was brought to GM’s attention by a dealer through the company’s “Speak Up For Safety” program. GM discovered that the floor liner design had not been updated to match a design change in the driver-side carpet for the 2024 model. Despite the recall encompassing 27,793 vehicles produced from September 2023 to July 2024, only 2,450 units are actually affected.

While there have been nine reported complaints related to this issue, no accidents have been reported so far. Rather than replacing the floor liners, GM has instructed dealers to modify the existing liners to eliminate the interference with the throttle pedal. Affected owners will be notified beginning September 23 and will be reimbursed for the cost of the all-weather floor liners if they choose to return them.

The Buick Envision, built in China on the same platform as the Cadillac XT4, starts at $35,900 for the 2024 model year and offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
