The city of Paris, in France, may soon restrict the circulation of SUV models in some areas of the city center, increasing parking fees for these types of vehicles.
According to Reuters, the local government plans to hold a referendum for Parisians early next year, similar to what was done for electric scooters in February of this year, which ultimately led to the ban of these vehicles in some areas of the city.
In the case of SUVs, the Parisian government is willing to introduce higher parking fees for combustion engine models weighing over 1.6 tons and for electric vehicles weighing over two tons.
“We need to reduce the number and size of vehicles in the city, so we will put to a vote the question of how much space should be available for this type of vehicle in the city of Paris,” said David Belliard, deputy mayor of Paris, in a statement to Reuters.
