Greg Olsen, the victim of a grave injustice.

Greg Olsen, former NFL player, recently appeared on the Dan Patrick Show and didn’t hold back about his disappointment in being bumped from the top spot on Fox broadcasts by Tom Brady. Not only does this demotion cost Olsen a staggering $7 million per year, but it also leaves a bitter taste in his mouth.

While it’s not surprising that Brady may excel in this role, considering his ability to articulate the intricacies of the game, it doesn’t necessarily mean he should automatically take over. Fox already boasts high ratings, so the need for the biggest name in the industry seems unnecessary. Why pay an exorbitant amount for Brady when Olsen is already doing an exceptional job?

The competition between networks to secure the best commentators has become somewhat of an arms race, although the reasoning behind it remains unclear. People will tune in to watch NFL games regardless of who is commentating. Even if Statler and Waldorf, the grumpy Muppets, were calling the shots, viewers would still be captivated. Yet, CBS snagged Tony Romo, despite his lackluster performance, and ESPN nabbed Buck and Aikman. Even Amazon insisted on having Al Michaels. It seems like everyone wants their own toy.

Unfortunately, Olsen is getting the short end of the stick. He is undoubtedly skilled at his job, perhaps even better than Romo and potentially Brady. However, his name recognition falls short compared to these bigger stars. It’s a classic case of showbiz, where talent sometimes takes a backseat to fame.

In the end, Olsen is left feeling cheated. He deserved better treatment, considering his expertise in the field. But in the cutthroat world of entertainment, sometimes fairness takes a backseat to the allure of big names.
