NBA Investigates Embiid’s Absence vs. Nuggets

NBA Investigating Joel Embiid’s Last-Minute Scratch

The NBA is currently investigating Joel Embiid’s sudden absence from the Philadelphia 76ers’ game against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. According to sources, the league is looking into the situation after Embiid was not listed on any injury reports until just before the game’s start time, when he was ruled out due to knee soreness.

During the previous game against the Indiana Pacers, Embiid displayed signs of discomfort in his knee. However, he still managed to play 31 minutes and scored an impressive 31 points with seven rebounds in the loss.

The NBA had been hyping up the matchup between Embiid and Nikola Jokic, the league’s two most recent MVPs, leading up to Saturday’s game. However, the 76ers’ medical staff reportedly noticed something concerning during Embiid’s pregame warmup, leading them to make the decision to scratch him from the game.

The NBA has strict guidelines when it comes to reporting player injuries, and teams have been fined in the past for not complying with these protocols. If an independent physician determines that Embiid could have played, the 76ers could face a hefty fine of $100,000 for violating the player participation policy. This policy was introduced this season to discourage teams from resting star players during prime-time games.

Embiid will also be sitting out Monday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. In order to remain eligible for end-of-season awards, including a potential second consecutive MVP trophy, he must play in at least 65 games this season. Following his absence against Portland, he can only miss five more games to maintain his eligibility.

The NBA’s investigation into Embiid’s last-minute scratch has raised eyebrows and has left fans wondering about the true nature of his knee soreness. As the league digs deeper into the matter, the 76ers may find themselves facing significant consequences if it is determined that Embiid could have played.
