2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was seen at Nurburgring

In a stunning revelation, the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe bears a striking resemblance to its hatchback counterpart. The front end showcases LED headlights, reminiscent of the practical hatchback model. The kidney grille and lower grille are also shared between the two. The newcomer is showcased on multi-spoke wheels, a feature not available on the European version of the 2025 BMW 1 Series Hatchback. Additionally, the sportier mirror housings of the range-topping M135 xDrive add a touch of elegance to the Gran Coupe.

One notable feature exclusive to the M135 xDrive is the quad-piped exhaust. On the other hand, the 118d, 120d, and gas-fed 120 models feature concealed exhaust pipes. The 2 Series Gran Coupe is expected to come equipped with three- and four-cylinder turbocharged engines, connected to a Steptronic transmission. Steptronic, in BMW’s terminology, refers to a two-pedal transmission with manual shifting capabilities. However, some may argue that these terms are merely marketing gimmicks, similar to BMW Efficient Dynamics and TwinPower Turbo.

Moving on to the powerplants, all of them share close similarities. The gasoline options include the 1.5-liter B38 and the 2.0-liter B48 engines, while the 1.5-liter B37 and 2.0-liter B47 engines utilize what Jeremy Clarkson once referred to as the “fuel of Satan.” Only the smaller gasoline engine and the larger diesel engine feature a mild-hybrid system operating at 48 volts.

It should come as no surprise that diesel engines will not be available in the US and Canadian markets, as there is simply no demand for them in this region. The North American lineup is expected to consist of the front-wheel-drive 228i, the 228i xDrive, and the more powerful M235 xDrive.

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, codenamed F74, is set to begin series production in November 2024. The second generation will also introduce a long-wheelbase variant in January 2025, exclusively for the Chinese market. On the technology front, the Gran Coupe will feature BMW Operation System 9 and BMW iDrive with QuickSelect. Physical controls on the dashboard will be minimal, as the focus will be on OTA software upgrades and a wide array of apps available in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.

When it comes to competition, the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe are the closest rivals to the 2 Series Gran Coupe. The A3 Sedan is priced at $35,800, while the CLA Coupe starts at $44,400 before taxes. In comparison, BMW charges $38,400 for the 2024 model year 228i and $48,300 for the M235i xDrive, making it a competitive option in the market.
