Formula 1 is a top focus for Schumacher as 2025 seats are available.

Mick Schumacher has not given up on his Formula 1 aspirations. Mick Schumacher has expressed that he still has a strong desire to return to Formula 1. The German, who is currently competing for Alpine in the FIA World Endurance Championship, is currently serving as a reserve driver for Mercedes after leaving Haas at the end of 2022. However, Schumacher remains determined to make a comeback in Formula 1, stating to Divebomb, “We’ll have to wait and see regarding a return. Formula One is currently in a state of flux, with three or four teams having available and uncontracted seats. Once one driver makes their decision, it will likely trigger a chain reaction of movements in the other teams.”

Schumacher acknowledges that many teams are not under immediate pressure to make a decision, leaving him uncertain about his future. Nevertheless, he emphasizes that Formula 1 will always be his top priority, and he will continue to wait and focus on that opportunity.

When asked about the possibility of other F1 drivers switching to the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Schumacher believes that WEC has become a viable alternative to Formula 1. While he has enjoyed his time in WEC, his ultimate goal remains Formula 1. He explains, “When I’m at a race weekend here, my focus is on WEC, but my ultimate goal is to be back in a Formula 1 car.”

Currently, there are four vacant seats for the upcoming season. Mercedes has yet to decide who will partner with George Russell, as Lewis Hamilton moves to Ferrari. Schumacher hopes that his current work with Mercedes will give him an advantage as team principal Toto Wolff weighs his options. Alpine, his current team, is also searching for a driver to partner with Pierre Gasly, as Esteban Ocon leaves to drive for Haas. However, the favorite for the seat is currently their reserve driver Jack Doohan.

RB, who was previously linked to Schumacher before hiring Nyck de Vries, has not offered Daniel Ricciardo an extension on his one-year contract. Lastly, Sauber, which will become Audi in 2026, is still in search of a partner for Nico Hulkenberg after missing out on Carlos Sainz, who will be joining Williams for the 2025 season and beyond.
