Juan Pablo Montoya will be returning to the NASCAR Cup Series next month at Watkins Glen with 23XI Racing. The seasoned veteran in IndyCar, F1, NASCAR, and sports car racing will pilot the No. 50 Toyota, sponsored by Mobil 1. This will mark the team’s third entry in the final race of the season.

“I am eagerly anticipating my return to the Cup car and the opportunity to race at Watkins Glen, a track that I have always enjoyed and had the privilege of experiencing earlier in my career,” expressed Montoya. “It is a great honor to commemorate the remarkable legacy of the Mobil 1 team in racing and to be acknowledged for my contributions to motorsports. Mobil 1 was one of my initial sponsors when I embarked on my racing journey, so it holds a special place in my heart to represent the brand once again as they celebrate this significant milestone. I am also thrilled to collaborate with 23XI and witness the progress the team is making.”

We extend a warm welcome back to NASCAR to Juan Pablo Montoya! In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mobil 1 brand, this accomplished driver across multiple series will take the wheel for the final race in the No. 50 Mobil 1 Camry XSE at Watkins Glen. Having previously emerged victorious at the Glen, he is proud to make his return.

Montoya competed as a full-time Cup Series driver for Chip Ganassi from 2007 to 2013. In 2014, he made two starts for Team Penske at Michigan and Indianapolis.

Watkins Glen holds a special place in Montoya’s heart, as he has had numerous experiences at the track. Throughout his Cup Series career, he has participated in seven races at Watkins Glen, achieving five top-10 finishes and securing one victory. In his overall racing journey, Montoya has competed in 12 events at Watkins Glen across four different series.

“Juan Pablo Montoya is an exceptional driver who has triumphed in every series he has competed in, and he will be the perfect conclusion to the 50th-anniversary celebration of the No. 50 Mobil 1 Toyota,” stated Steve Lauletta, president of 23XI Racing. “These events have shone a spotlight on racing legends as well as the future of motorsports, and 23XI Racing is honored to have contributed to the Mobil 1 legacy and the celebration of such a momentous occasion.”

Previously, 23XI Racing entered the No. 50 Toyota in two Cup Series races. Kamui Kobayashi piloted the car at Circuit of The Americas, while Corey Heim represented the team at Nashville Superspeedway.
