Ford has announced one of the largest recall campaigns of the year in the United States, covering about 1.4 million units of the popular F-150 pickup truck, following transmission-related issues.

Issue may cause unexpected reductions

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect may cause unexpected speed reductions, increasing the risk of accidents.

The problem is associated with incorrect signals sent by the transmission sensor, which can lead to unintentional gear shifts.

Investigation led to the decision

The investigation began in March 2025, following several complaints from owners of F-150 models produced between 2015 and 2017, equipped with the 6R80 automatic transmission.

Subsequently, the process was expanded by the authorities, culminating now in the decision to proceed with the recall.

Likely cause identified

According to Ford, the source of the problem may lie in the wear of electrical connections over time, caused by:

  • heat
  • vibrations

This wear can lead to a loss of signal in the transmission sensor.

Reported Cases

The authorities report that there are:

  • two potentially related injuries
  • one accident associated with the issue

Solution involves software update

To correct the failure, dealers will proceed with the update of the powertrain control module.

One of Ford’s most important models

The Ford F-150 is one of the best-selling models in the United States, making this campaign particularly relevant in terms of impact.

Safety in focus

The intervention aims to ensure the proper functioning of the transmission and reduce risks for drivers, at a time when electronic systems are playing an increasingly central role in modern vehicles.
