Carlos Sainz may leave Ferrari after 2024; negotiations allegedly complicated.

Carlos Sainz arrived at the Ferrari Formula 1 team in 2021 and since then has performed well alongside Charles Leclerc – already achieving his first victories. However, this year may be his last in Maranello.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Spaniard aspires to be a world champion, which has become problematic at Scuderia. Allegedly, team boss Frédéric Vasseur and president John Elkann want a clear number one driver, which would be Charles Leclerc in this case. The Monegasque recently renewed his contract for the long term.

On the other side of the garage, Ferrari may prefer a driver who is less of a contender for top positions, like Oliver Bearman who is currently a reserve driver and competes in Formula 2, or Alexander Albon. As for Sainz, he is reportedly being pressured to sign only until 2025 before the start of the new season, according to F1 commentator Alexey Popov.

The negotiations may not be easy, as Sainz may also want to keep the door open for Audi in 2026. For now, these are just typical rumors that arise when drivers are nearing the end of their contracts, but the truth is that in recent years, #55 has shown he has the qualities to deserve a place at Ferrari. It is also certain that, alongside Leclerc, the team has two potentially winning drivers, and if that is not the desired strategy for the future, they may have to let go of one of them.
