A Lotus has confirmed that its highly anticipated 100% electric model, successor to the Elise, will be unveiled in 2025 and is expected to hit the market in 2027.

Currently known as the Type 135, the two-seater sports car will be developed and produced in Hethel, United Kingdom, and will be the fourth member of the Vision80 project family, which already includes the Eletre SUV, the Emeya sedan, and the upcoming brand’s SUV, the Type 134, which Lotus will reveal later this year.

In an interview with Autocar, Mike Johnstone, Lotus’ commercial director, made it clear that the new Type 135 will be an important model for the brand’s future, due to its affordable price, although a low production volume is expected, between 10,000 and 15,000 units per year, however, higher than the current Emira.

“It’s something that doesn’t represent a big step from where we are right now, but we recognize that there will be a lot of new technology. So, our teams will need to work hard to ensure that we can have an affordable price.”

Everything points to the fact that the new Lotus electric sports car will have an electric motor and rear-wheel drive with 469 horsepower, as well as a version with two motors, one per axle, with 872 horsepower.

In addition, according to the same publication, the new electric architecture of the Type 135 will allow the use of 66.4 kWh and 99.6 kWh batteries for a range of up to 724 km.

The emissions-free Lotus sports car will also be equipped with an 800V electrical system in order to be compatible with the fastest chargers on the market.
