Liberty Media rumored to be the reason Red Bull didn’t fire Sergio Perez due to concerns about losing revenue from the Mexican GP

Sergio Perez has faced immense pressure while being a part of the Red Bull team. During the current summer break, there is still a lot of talk surrounding his future in the world of F1. He had a disastrous first half of the season and many believed that he would be dismissed from the team.

However, recently the Red Bull boss made it clear that Sergio Perez will continue to be a part of the team until the end of this year’s campaign. It has now been revealed that Liberty Media, the organization behind F1, played a role in ensuring Perez’s retention. They approached Red Bull and requested them not to let go of the six-time Grand Prix winner.

According to F1Insider, Liberty Media was concerned about a significant loss in revenue at the Mexican GP if Perez was no longer a part of the Red Bull team. Since Perez’s arrival at Red Bull, the Mexican GP has seen a surge in attendance due to his popularity as a homegrown hero.

Several notable names, including , , and even a junior driver, , were being considered for Perez’s position before Horner’s recent announcement. With the summer break underway, it is in Perez’s best interest to take some time off from F1 in order to come back rejuvenated and ready to compete from the Zandvoort race onwards.

While Perez’s position is secure until the end of 2024, Red Bull is more concerned about their standing in the Constructors Championship rather than the Driver’s Championship. Currently, Red Bull leads McLaren by 78 points in the latter category.

However, in the Constructors Championship, the competition is much closer. Red Bull only holds a 42-point advantage over McLaren’s team based in Woking.

The battle for the 2024 Championship has become a fierce four-way fight between Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull. The balance of power has shifted from race to race, making the second half of the season a highly challenging one for these top teams. The next phase of the championship will kick off in Zandvoort on August 23rd.
