The Public Security Police (PSP) revealed that in the first half of 2024, it carried out 12,402 operations throughout the national territory, inspecting 346,717 drivers and controlling 1,241,829 vehicles through radar.

In a statement, the PSP stated that a total of 95,902 offenses were recorded, which corresponds to an average of over 15,980 infractions per month. Of the recorded infractions, according to the PSP, 15,727 were for speeding, which represents 16.4% of the total infractions recorded.

In the same period, “101,344 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in 1,670 offenses for driving under the influence of alcohol,” the note emphasized.

Of these infractions, according to the PSP, “332 relate to drivers to whom the reduced alcohol rate applies (drivers with a driving license for less than three years or professional drivers), which corresponds to about 19.9% of the infractions recorded for driving under the influence of alcohol.”

The PSP also highlights 9,434 infractions for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 2,981 for lack of third-party liability insurance, 2,507 for using a mobile phone while driving, 1,292 for not using seat belts, and 509 for not using restraint systems (child seats).

“In the same period, 3,920 arrests were made for traffic crimes, including 2,100 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 1,820 for driving without a valid license,” the statement further stated.

The note also states that between January and June 2024, a total of 41 people were fatal victims. “The data on road accidents for the first semester of 2024 show that 27,261 accidents were recorded, resulting in 8,084 minor injuries and 326 serious injuries.”.

According to the statement, “out of the fatal victims, 21 resulted from collision situations (51%), 12 from pedestrian accidents (29%), and eight from skidding accidents (20%)”.
