Nissan has already begun to lift the veil on the next generation of the iconic GT-R, and the main conclusion is clear: the future “Godzilla” will not be fully electric.
Electricity not in the plans for the R36
The decision was confirmed by brand officials, who believe that current battery technology still does not allow for the creation of a GT-R that meets the model’s demands.
According to Nissan, electric sports cars have not yet made a significant impact on the market, especially in the high-performance segment.
Hybridization will be inevitable
Despite rejecting a 100% electric GT-R, the brand acknowledges that partial electrification will be necessary.
The future Nissan GT-R R36 is expected to adopt a hybrid solution in response to increasingly stringent global emission standards.
Current technology limitations
Nissan officials directly point to the limitations of current batteries as the main obstacle.
The ability to provide consistent power, range, and appropriate weight has not yet reached the necessary standards for a model with the characteristics of the GT-R.
Development already underway
CEO Ivan Espinosa confirmed that the R36 is already in development, also leaving open the possibility of new sports models in the future.
The sports DNA remains intact
Even with the introduction of hybrid technology, Nissan aims to preserve what has always defined the GT-R:
- extreme performance
- immediate response
- aggressive character
A decision that pleases purists
The choice to maintain a combustion engine, even if assisted by electrification, comes as good news for enthusiasts who feared a total transition to electric.
The future depends on technological evolution
Nissan does not completely close the door on an electric GT-R, but makes it clear that this will only happen when technology allows for meeting the standards required by the model.
A new chapter for the “Godzilla”
The R36 thus promises to combine tradition and innovation, maintaining the spirit of the GT-R while adapting to the demands of the future.
