Seat triplica capacidade de produção de energia renovável

Seat S.A. has announced that it will triple its capacity for autonomous renewable energy production with 39,000 new solar panels. The expansion of the company’s photovoltaic factory will involve the installation of solar panels distributed over an area of 233,000m2 in three production centers – Martorell, El Prat, and Barcelona.

With this project, the brand reinforces its efforts to decarbonize production processes and consolidates the company’s commitment to more sustainable mobility.

This new photovoltaic installation, Seat al Sol 2, will be one of the largest in Europe for self-consumption. The plants will offer an additional 21 megawatts (MW) of power, with an estimated autonomous production of 29 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy per year, enough to charge 500,000 Cupra Born vehicles. This clean energy will complement the use of certified green electricity from external sources in all company facilities, without generating CO2 emissions.

“Seat al Sol 2 reinforces the objective of decarbonizing our facilities and highlights the importance of renewable energy as a competitive element in our industry. The expansion of the solar project is part of Seat S.A.’s most ambitious transformation process in our history, towards the new era of electric mobility,” explained Markus Haupt, Executive Vice President of Production and Logistics.

This expansion is based on Seat al Sol, which has been active since 2013 and will remain operational in parallel, with a total of 53,000 panels on the roofs of the factory and warehouses of vehicles produced at the Martorell facilities, offering 11 megawatts (MW) of power and generating 17 GWh of clean energy per year.

With Seat al Sol 2, the company’s solar project will provide a total of 32 megawatts (MW) of power and autonomously generate 46 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy per year.
