Just over a month before the start of the season, Hyundai announced this week its latest drivers for the 2024 World Rally Championship (WRC) season. The returning Andreas Mikkelsen and Dani Sordo will share the third car with Esapekka Lappi. As already known, Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville will be the permanent drivers.

The experience in the curriculum that Mikkelsen and Sordo have was vital in Hyundai’s choice. The Norwegian spent the last few years in WRC2, being champion in 2021 and this season, but has already been part of the South Koreans between 2017 and 2019 in the main class, helping to win the constructors’ title in 2019. Sordo has been with Hyundai since 2014, doing partial programs for several years.

The team boss, Cyril Abiteboul, commented: ‘We are very pleased to confirm the final elements of our experienced and talented lineup for the WRC in 2024. Dani has contributed greatly to the team over the past ten years, both on the stages and at the factory, so we are very happy for him to continue with us next season. It is also exciting to see Andreas return to our team, as he brings with him evidence of success and a lot of experience that will benefit us both in WRC and in Rally2. Thanks to their slightly different specialties and vast amount of experience, the combination of Esapekka, Dani, and Andreas will give us the opportunity to put the best team in every race to fight alongside Thierry and Ott’.
