Volkswagen desenvolve nova plataforma para veículos elétricos mais acessíveis

Automotive builders are committed to driving the transition to electric mobility in Europe, with more affordable electric vehicle models, and for that they seek to find synergies that contribute to this goal.

In this sense, Volkswagen is considering the possibility of partnering with other companies in the sector, including the French Renault, as reported by the German newspaper “Handelsblatt“, in order to reach an agreement to produce a common platform that allows the launch of electric vehicles at a reduced price, in order to popularize the sale of electric vehicles, considering that joint development and production can reduce costs.

The German newspaper, citing sources close to the process, states that discussions are in an early stage, and it is certain that Volkswagen recently presented plans to launch a 100% electric model for €25,000, with a planned release for 2025, and which is expected to have a range of 450 km.

On Renault’s side, Luca de Meo announced last November that the French brand will launch the next generation of the Twingo in 2026, with exclusively electric power, based on a platform developed by Ampere, the company created to design, develop and produce 100% electric vehicles for the Renault Group.

Luca de Meo confirmed that the new Twingo will have a production cost 50% lower than a new C-segment SUV, due to the reduction of materials and a software-based platform that will require the use of fewer parts.

Without many technical details about the new 100% electric Twingo, Luca de Meo made it clear that the model will have consumption of 10 kWh/100 km, as well as a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions throughout its life cycle compared to European internal combustion models, and that the price will be below €20,000.
