The next Formula 1 season will have a record 24 Grand Prix races. The goal is, of course, to diversify the presence in various markets, when there is a strong demand to host a round of the season, also reaching new audiences. However, the strain on all professionals involved is increasing more and more, and Ralf Schumacher believes that the audience can also get tired.
A warning left by the former driver in statements to Sky Deutschland: ‘Families have to watch action for hours every weekend, 24 times a year. They are simply wasting their weekends. I think it’s better to have fewer races and more tests, like before, so that on free weekends you can read a great interview or report in the Sunday newspapers about the heroes of our sport’.
Schumacher also feels that F1 has less media attention nowadays: ‘The subject of Formula 1 is so oversaturated that the press dedicates less and less space to it. They no longer write about Formula 1 at all, at least in Germany. Only the specialized magazines and a couple of newspapers continue. It simply became too much. At some point, viewers will simply say, “We can’t watch because we have family vacations, we have a wedding, we can’t always watch Formula 1”.’
