Rent-a-car portuguesa deu nega a Verstappen, por ser demasiado novo

The world champion F1 driver was prevented from renting a Mercedes AMG GT in Faro, because he was not old enough to drive so fast…

Max Verstappen, three-time Formula 1 world champion, has secured a place in the motor sport hall of fame, being considered by many as the best driver of today, whose credentials need no introduction. But not for the Portuguese branch of rent-a-car Sixt… According to “The Sun” newspaper, the Dutch driver was prevented from renting a Mercedes AMG GT in Faro, because he was too young.

Max Verstappen is currently 26 years old, which is not enough to get behind the wheel of the car he chose during his stay in the Algarve, when he was testing at the Portimão circuit with a Ferrari 296 GTB GT3.

According to the British newspaper, due to reaching a top speed of 314 km/h, the AMG GT can only be reserved by drivers over 30 years old.

Contacted by “The Sun”, an official source from the company explained that “Sixt employees in Portugal simply followed the rules that are established for safety reasons. In order to find a solution at the time, we provided Mr. Verstappen with another top vehicle. However, there are special situations that may justify a deviation from the rules. This was one of those cases. We apologize to Mr. Verstappen. He can rent any car he wants at any time. Of course, we have no doubt about his ability and experience to drive these cars”.
