Another Phone Company Set to Launch Its First Car in 2024!

Xiaomi and Huawei have already made their mark in the Chinese automotive industry, and now Meizu is set to join the car battle with its own model. The company’s COO, Liao Qinghong, confirmed at ChinaJoy 2024 that Meizu’s first car will be a tech-focused vehicle, featuring the innovative Flyme Auto integration. This ambitious car operating system will allow drivers to seamlessly connect their phones to their cars and access a wide range of apps and tools.

What sets Meizu apart is its commitment to community engagement. The company has invited users to contribute ideas for customizing the upcoming vehicle, including interior colors, operating system themes, and paint options. This collaborative approach aims to make the Meizu car a truly unique and personalized experience for its future owners.

While Meizu has not provided a specific launch date for its first car, it is expected to hit the market in the fall under the codename DreamCar MX. The teaser released earlier this year suggests that the vehicle will take the form of a sedan. Meizu’s partnership with Geely, the automotive giant that also owns Volvo, gives the company access to advanced technology and systems, further solidifying its position in the automotive space.

In contrast, Apple has shifted its focus from developing an electric vehicle to creating software and services for the next generation of cars. Although Apple has never officially confirmed its car-building plans, reports earlier this year revealed that the company had abandoned the project. Instead, Apple is now focusing on CarPlay and Apple Maps, two projects that will enhance its presence in the automotive market.

Car manufacturers are increasingly investing in in-house infotainment software, with some seeking alternatives to reduce their reliance on Google and Apple. Rivian and Tesla, for example, are developing their own systems to compete with CarPlay and Android Auto. Rivian has recently reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the best in-car experience without the need for Apple’s system, offering everything built-in.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Meizu and Apple are taking different approaches to carve out their niches. Meizu’s emphasis on technology and community involvement sets it apart, while Apple’s focus on software and services aims to enhance the driving experience for its users. Only time will tell which strategy proves to be more successful in this competitive market.
